Wominjeka! Welcome to narrm ngarrgu library

Fallback

A Welcome to Country marked the launch of narrm ngarrgu Library & Family Services, where a traditionally cast ceremonial coolamon permanently graces the 960m2 landscaped terrace.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp, project collaborators and guests, during the ceremony.

The close collaboration with leading indigenous artists is reflected in the naming of spaces and in the art curation.

Throughout the building, Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung language is interwoven, where 'narrm ngarrgu' translates to Melbourne Knowledge and the outdoor terrace is named 'wurru wurru,' signifying the sky.

Indigenous artist Maree Clarke and her team who created and curated the art collection in the spaces.

An extensive array of works by Maree welcomes visitors. Her designs celebrate Country, the 7 seasons and 5 Kulin nations, most visibly reflected in the vibrant carpet design in the main library, the corridor leading to the children's library and a 6-metre-long eel trap playground artwork surrounded by native planting on the terrace.
