Six Degrees were commissioned in 2014 by the City of Yarra to design the Studio 1 Community Hub at the GTV 9 Redevelopment. The project was constructed within the red brick heritage listed shell of the former GTV 9 Studio 3, in Bendigo St, Richmond. Working in conjunction with the City of Yarra and user groups, Six Degrees sought to provide spaces that enabled flexible use with durable, low maintenance and environmentally sustainable materiality.
The Facility will operate as a ‘neighbourhood house’ model, and as a community venue. It will act as a hub bringing together a range of community activities into a single facility, and providing a meeting point for residents of the new GTV9 development and the local area. The Hub will provide a range of services and activities that will be attractive to a broad range of residents and program users. It was important that the facility appears open, accessible and welcoming to all local residents and that the services and activities provided from the site are tailored to respond to local needs.
