Sacred Heart
Mission

aged care & community

St Kilda’s Sacred Heart Mission is Melbourne’s biggest restaurant, serving around 400 lunches every day for homeless and disadvantaged members of the community. Started by Parish Priest Father Ernie Smith in 1982, the mission also provides clothing, emergency relief, accommodation, health services and companionship to people in need.

When Six Degrees were approached by Sacred Heart Mission, their premises were very run down; our aim was to provide a fresh, functional and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers and clients. Our design addressed the dining room and kitchens as well as the clinical, counseling and admin facilities. The public entry to the mission was re-positioned from the back door (down an alleyway) to the front door, helping to make clients feel valued rather than hidden.
